HAPPY SPOOKY DAY GUYS!! How was your Halloween? Did you go trick or treating? I did, with my little siblings and it was super fun! Candy is always the best part of any holiday, let's be real here. Do you like my sp00ky background??
It's kind of reminiscent of the original 2013 background I made, eh? Yeah! Little throwback for ya there, eh? Anyway, I hope y'all had a great Halloween (or just a great Tuesday if you don't celebrate it)! I have an extra spooky post coming on Friday. Man, why is Halloween on a frickin' Tuesday this year? That sucks! Who decided that? You there! Why on earth would you make Halloween on a Tuesday? What is wrong with you? Yeah, I'm talking to you!... No wait come back! Come back! Who is that guy anyway? Anyway, look forward to the main post on Friday! WOO! Here is a spooky fact for you: Did you know that a skele-bro is inside your body right now? I KNOW! It's so cool. Oh, you don't know what a skele-bro is? It's one of these snazzy lads:
Look at him go! What a beautiful skele-bro. Anyway, have a good rest of your week! Here's a spooky gif to sign off with:
Bye guys! See ya Friday!

What Happened to Nate's Mom? (Big Nate)

Hiddely ho, neighbor! How's y'alls doing on this fine day? Today is a very exciting day because.... IT'S FINALLY TIME FOR ANOTHER COMIC MYSTERY!! The last one I did was back in February when I asked the question of what happened to Lyman in Garfield, and you can see that here if you haven't already: clickality bickality right about here! So yes! Are you ready to answer yet another question about a certain comic strip that nobody asked, but I'm going to attempt to find the answer for anyway?! OF COURSE YOU ARE! But first things first- YES I changed the header of this blog! It's part of my announcement that's coming later this year (yooou shall seeee ;) ). Do you like the new header? I think it's quite pretty!

I took that picture on a road trip my family and I went on this summer, Isn't it nice? And this is a historic moment (in the loosest sense of the word) because I've had that other header up there for FOUR YEARS! The entire time this blog has been going, that header has stayed there and now I've changed it! Also, I got rid of the blog description because I wanted people's eyes to rest on the picture and not be cluttered up with text. I might bring the description back if I find a way to put it on something other than the header. OKAY! Time to properly start this post! ROLL THE INTRO!

Hmm. Remind me to change that intro. Anyway, TODAY'S Mystery Of The Day is about a little-known comic strip called Big Nate. Here's some fast facts if you're not familiar with it.
  • Big Nate was launched on January 7th, 1991 (26 years ago, jeez) by the lovely Lincoln Pierce.
  • The strip is about Nate Wright, a sixth-grade cartoonist and frequenter of the detention room. He, along with his best friends Francis and Teddy, go to the fictional P.S. 38.
  • Along with the long-running comic strip, the series was also turned into an 8-novel series, beginning on March 23, 2010 and coming to a close on February 16, 2016. This was also when Lincoln Pierce ended his blog.
On the surface, you'd think this was just another "middle school" kids book kinda thing, with all the tropes and mediocrities of that. But Big Nate isn't like that. It's got depth to it, a lot of heart, and it's just downright hilarious! The stories are well-written, and each of the characters that Nate deals with on a daily basis has their own backstory (after 26 years of 6th grade, you'd have to!) Speaking of characters, there sure is a lot of them in Big Nate. But one is...missing.
Sorry for the terrible quality, I have to download all my images from the internet. True professional right here™
Can you spot who it is? Yeah, you probably can based on the title of this post. It's Nate's MOM. As far as I can tell, she is only mentioned in two strips from the 90s- 1991 and 1997. Based on those, we find out that Nate's mom left him and Martin (Nate's dad) is now a lonely bachelor.
(click on this to enlarge it)
(also click this one to enlarge it, it actually works on all pictures on my blog it's probably magic)

(this one is unrelated to the other 2, just keep reading)
So we learn what happened, but, because I want to know too many things, I want to know more. What really went down between Nate's parents that caused them to split up, why is Nate's dad so easily attracted to women (see above comic) but can never date one, when did this happen, and most importantly- why is she never mentioned again? So, like all good researchers, the first thing to do is make a list of what we know.

1. Nate is 11 years old and his sister Ellen is 15.
2. Big Nate has a "shifted timeline", in which the characters stay the same age even though real time is passing by. A good example of this is my good ol boy Calvin and Hobbes. (A non-example is For Better or for Worse, which aged up the characters.) Just to clarify because this can be quite confusing: shifted timelines are not like the movie Groundhog Day. If a character went through 7th grade in the 2015-2016 school year in a shifted timeline, they wouldn't start 7th grade again in 2015 and repeat the same year. They would start 7th grade again in 2016 and have all the same classes and teachers, but have different experiences. This is made obvious by something like Big Nate (which started in 1991) referencing iPhones. If Nate was living 1991 every year, iPhones obviously wouldn't exist. It's confusing, don't think about it too much.
3. Martin's wife got a divorce and left him sometime when Nate was younger. (3 years?)
4. Nate's mom now lives 2,000 miles away. It is inferred that they live in the Midwest, so we'll just go with Cleveland Ohio. What's 2,000 miles away from Cleveland? Los Angeles. That's probably where his mom lives. Boom fixed your problem
4. Nate's dad is not good at picking up women.
Alright! Now that we have our information, we can start to work out what happened. We never actually see Nate's mom, (Good old Marty was a bachelor from the get-go) but that second comic I showed you was the first (and it turns out, 1 of 2) time she is mentioned. Since this is from only 2 months after the strip launched, we're going to go with that. Sometimes in a shifted timeline, a specific event will get farther and farther away as time goes on. And since the first time Nate's mom was mentioned was so close to the beginning of the strip, we'll assume it was factual. Nate says it was 3 years ago, and 11-3 is 8. (math genius right here, I know) So we can assume that Nate was 8 (haha that rhymed) and Ellen was 12. 6 years later, that would have been "a long time ago", even with the crazy shifted timeline. So we know that! That answers our third question. But we're still not at the bottom of this. The big question is: why? Why on earth would a mom of two leave her 8-year old and 12-year old with their slightly incompetent dad? And it had to be a bad breakup, too. Just take another look at these panels:
And then of course the fact that there hasn't been any other mention of Nate's mom in 20 years. (Sure, there have been lots of suggestions by various characters that Nate's dad should remarry, but nothing about the divorce.) So we get the feeling that neither of Nate's parents want to have anything to do with each other anymore. But again that harkens back to the question of what...happened? WHY did she leave her family? Why is she so upset and why did it take her just 3 years or less to find a new boyfriend (husband?) when it's been 26 years and Martin is still a bachelor? Why does Nate's mom, in the tiny snippets that we've seen her in, seem so eager to leave her past life and family behind? Well, I think I know the reason.

Nate's parents never got along because they weren't meant for each other. Each wanted to live different lives. It's the classic trope, one wanted children and a family and one wanted to spend their life partying in LA. There is hardly any information to go off of, but I think the backstory Lincoln Pierce has never fully explained has to do with just that. Martin was a boy kind of like Nate- likeable, funny, sometimes crazy, but has a real soft spot for people. Just look at this picture of him with Nate as a baby:
You can see the compassion and love in his eyes, even in this drawing. However, Nate's mom just doesn't feel that way. She doesn't want to be tied down with responsibilities and problems with supporting a family; she wants to live her life free, without any weights or issues that pull her back. If she wants to fly to Tokyo, she can fly to Tokyo. No problem. If she wants to buy a $15,000 boat, she can do that too. There's nothing stopping her.
I really understand both of these sides, because it's a question I've pondered a lot in my life too. Should I save all my money, not have any children and be free in life? Or should I have children and watch them grow up and share those bonding moments with them? Obviously I have a lot more growing up to do because I'm only 15, but I get where these two issues are coming from. It's a moral dilemma, really. What if you decide to live your life free with no obligations but then once you hit 50 you realize that's no fun anymore and you become lonely? What if you choose to have a family and while they're growing up, you realize you can't do this anymore? It's quite a sad issue. There are lots of people that have made a great choice and love their life, but there are some people that don't feel that way, and it's quite troubling.
Bringing this back to Big Nate, I think that both parties are happy in life. Nate's mom is happy living her life out in LA or wherever she is now and probably barely remembers her two children. Nate's dad is happy raising his two kids who, yes, drive him crazy sometimes, but he still loves them. Each of these is the best of the situations. Nate's parents just weren't destined to be together- they are polar opposites when it comes to life. And who knows, maybe Nate's mom will get tired of her life out in LA and pay a visit to Martin and his kids, but honestly I don't think that would help anything. It's very awkward when two people grow apart and start separate lives, and then person 1 comes back to person 2 for a visit. Person 2 is usually angry at person 1, especially if they leave a positive impact on their kids. So I think the best thing is to forgive and forget. Let them live their separate lives. They may be related by blood, but they are completely different people.
So I think we can answer all of our questions now:

1. Why did Nate's parents split up? Because they grew apart and each wanted different lifestyles for themselves. It's for the best that they divorced.
2. Why is Martin so easily attracted to women, but can never date one?  Because he is a truly loving person, and he would like to have another person in his life that he can love just as much. I think he still harbors a little bit of admiration for his ex-wife.
3. When did this happen? About when Nate was 8 and Ellen was 12.
4. Why was she never mentioned again? Because, as I mentioned before, Martin and his kids and his wife grew apart and lost contact with each other. I don't really think Nate even gives her a phone call or a letter anymore, she's just gone from his life.

So there you go! Another mystery solved. Sorry it always gets so sad and real on this series. That just always ends up happening. I tell you, I end up thinking a lot more then what I originally plan for these comic mysteries. I start with a topic that's always bothered me, and then I quickly think up a surface-level answer, but as I'm writing the true story starts to come out. I don't know why I never realized this before, I've been reading Big Nate for years. That's the power of a good ol' Comic Mystery!™ Heck yeah!

Oh and guys, again I'm so sorry for being so dead on here. I'm trying to work on it. There will be more posts next year, I promise. (holy crap AJP is gonna be FIVE YEARS OLD next year!! that's half a decade! jeez!) Next up is a spooktacular Halloween post that'll really getcha in the spirit! Also I might do another spooky story since you guys liked it so much last year. We'll see. For now it's time for tHEMEMEOFTHEDAY!!!
Okay, this isn't a meme at all, but I just wanted to say HOW DISAPOINTED I am in good ol' Violet Brown here. COME ON MAN! Sorry, this probably makes no sense to you. Here's some context:
For some reason, I really like tracking who is the oldest person in the world. It has been all women since 2013 (yay!) but I've been tracking them since 2014. In December 2014, there were six women left from the 1800s: two from 1898 and four from 1899. By December 2015, there were only two left and in December 2016 there was only one left: Emma Morano who died in April. Sadness :'( But good ol' Emma actually secured a spot on the top 5 oldest people ever!! Heck yeah bro! That's pretty good! (All the rest of the top 5 are old farts who died in the '90s, and I wanted to dethrone them with this new generation of supercentenarians. That's what they're called by the way, it's a pretty damb cool name!) And the 4th place spot is currently held by some old Canadian lady who died at the ripe old age of 116 years, 230 days. Now, Violet Brown, who was next in line after Emma, survived a pretty long time! And I thought she was going to make it and dethrone Canada Fart! But nooooooo. ALL SHE HAD TO DO was get to October 27th. (I did the math.) But did she? Nah, of course not. She had to go and die on September 15th. She was 41 DAYS OFF! UGH! And the next in line, Nabi Tajima (great name by the way) is only at 116 years, 61 days. UGH. COME ON, VIOLET. Sorry. You probably think I'm a lunatic. And you may be right! Just kidding. But really, I'm mad at Violet. YOU ONLY HAD TO GET TO OCTOBER 27TH! Okay, I'm done now. Hope y'alls enjoyed the new post and are enjoying the fall weather! It's beginning to feel a lot like October which is nice! Time to get out the ol' pumpkin spice lattes! Here is an autumn-inspired gif:

i knew i'd remember that day in november as we

felt alive again
cause we found ourselves in the sea

deep underwater we both found that we could still breathe

so we spent the day

and we swam the evening away

A word on motivation (+ 140,000 VIEWS?!??!?)

Hey guys! I know it's been such a long time since I've updated this blog, and instead of coming back with another jam-packed crazy-long post like I've done before, I've decided to give you instead an apology and an update as to what's going on with me and the blog right now. So, as you might have noticed, I've been posting less and less every year.
But before you get your hibbles in a jibble, that's not necessarily a bad thing! As I've said before, I pride myself on valuing quality over quantity, like what I was posting back in 2013. Like, for example, look at this garbage post:
It was so short it fit in one screenshot. Back then when I was just starting out, I was more focused on getting one post out every single day, and usually that just involved a new item added to the stores because there wasn't much else to cover on a daily basis. Later, I realized that I didn't want to do things that way and that just wasn't enough to keep people around. (That above post only got 20 views, each post now gets over 500!) But now I've learned from my mistakes, and I've grown as a person and you can see that growth through each post I made, which is pretty darn cool! However, there is such a thing as too little posts, and I think that's what I've fallen into this summer. I think a perfect amount of posts is 2-3 real long ones and 1 shorter update post per month, and obviously I didn't post at all in July, and only once in June.

Believe me, I didn't like the sort of unbeknownst hiatus that was hanging over my blog either. Once I posted that update post in June, I thought for sure that I would be more motivated to write posts now. But it never happened. I knew full and well exactly what and when I was supposed to be writing things, and I tried to start posts several times, but I just couldn't do it. It made me feel tired and unmotivated to even think about writing a huge gigantic post again, and I never got past the opening. I felt so bad about it. Here I was, promising that all these things were going to happen, but somewhere my brain just fell off track...

Two years ago, in the summer of 2015, I think that was my best posting schedule so far. I would do a regular, medium-length post every other day that mostly included my take on the news in Animal Jam (with plenty of wacky drawings to go along with it) or other things stuck in my head that I wanted to talk about. Sure, those posts weren't very long like nowadays, but they were consistent, and I miss that consistency sometimes. In fact, I don't even know how I could be so consistent, because there were a lot of troubling things going on in my life that summer. Perseverance, I guess.

However, I think I got off to a bad start in that update post back in June. I set too many goals and expectations for myself, and ended up causing a lot of mental anguish (and a lot of unpublished post drafts), so what I'm going to do now is I'm going to take another look at all the planned posts, and see if they are actually doable and when you guys can expect them. So here it is!

  • Animal Jam Potato Contests- Yes!! Should get that started in November or December.
  • Comic mystery- YES! I really love doing the comic mysteries, they're my favorite type of post right now, and I really hope you guys are enjoying them too. I have one already written, but there's another one coming too. I hope to get that out by late August/early September, but no promises.
  • Other posts- I don't know. I'll play it by ear. I do want to do something for Halloween, so maybe a couple posts for that. I don't know, I'll have to see how it goes.
  • Something I didn't mention before, but another Ask:Reply!! I've been meaning to do another one of those for so long now, because I love reading your comments. You guys always make me smile when you comment, and I want to formally recognize them in another post again. I'll be collecting those in the next few weeks, so comment if you want yours to be in there!
  • HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT- Well, obviously I didn't do that on June 30th, but it's still coming! And it's quite a bittersweet announcement, but one I feel I have to make. Coming soon-ish.
So there you go! Man, immediately after writing that my conscience felt better. The anxiety of just leaving my blog blank for 2 months just kept building, and I'm glad that you guys are on the same page as me now. I swear, I was in such a struggle between wanting to finally post again and not having the energy to write a crazy energy-filled post that would take me a week to write. I just didn't want to start a project like that because I was so unmotivated, and this is the first time I've been properly motivated to write a post, so I'm grateful for that! Now it's time to talk about the views. THE VIEWS! THE VIEWS HAVE BEEN CRAZY! So, here's a little background. I can check how many pageviews this blog got each month, which I usually do quite frequently, and it usually gets between 2,000 and 4,000 per month. But because of my procrastination/guilt over not making posts, I hadn't been checking them. And they just absolutely FLEW!
So, first off, I was super proud of us for reaching an all-time high in January with 8,000. That was unbelievable at the time and still is, really! But usually what happens when we hit a sudden huge number like that is the views go down real fast. I don't know why, but you can see from the spikes in the graph that it happens quite frequently. Each spike is a higher number than before, and that's so cool, man. I love watching this blog grow. However, the one from January didn't wear off, it just kept going! February was less, but it was still almost 5,000; March was over 6,500; April was also over 6,500; May was SEVEN thousand; and June was.... get ready for it....OVER NINE THOUSAND!!!!

Sorry. I know that's a totally dead meme, but I've always wanted to say that and I FINALLY GOT THE CHANCE! But yes, this blog clocked in at a NEW RECORD of 9,131 pageviews! All right! Pat yourself on the back, guys! Sorry I'm geeking out over all these stats, I'm just always in awe of how many people there are who read my content. It still blows my mind that there have been over 100,000, that's completely nuts. And if you're thinking "well Neros, regular Youtubers get more than that many views on just one video" then SHUSH! Let me have my fun! Plus, the stats n YouTube are different than on Blogger. You have to actually click on something and read it for it to count as a view. If you watch one second of a YouTube video but refresh the page 100 times, that would count as 100 views. (more, even, because there's double view logs and other broken things like that) A lot of my YouTube videos have more views than my posts, and I don't even post on there very often. It's just a completely different way of counting the views. I do think I have a guess as to why the sudden surge of views in June, and it might have been because people were looking for the content I promised! If that's the case, I'm so sorry!! I feel really bad now. Again, all that stuff I promised is still coming, just delayed to a more manageable pace for me and my sanity. But back to the views!
In all the confusion, I hadn't realized we surpassed not only 120,000, not only 130,000, but A HUNDRED AND FORTY THOUSAND PAGEVIEWS since I last did a post about that back in April! THAT IS ABSOLUTELY CRAZY! And I know I've used that term to describe the views before, but this is really spectacular! This is the most my blog has ever grown in such a short amount of time, period. I told you all them pageviews would add up! I don't even know how to describe how much this means to me, and the huge THANK YOU that is due to every single one of you. I'll start with this:
This is the number of people that visited AJP from May 2013 to September 2016. And now, only 10 months later, we have nearly doubled that. It took almost 4 years to reach 100,000, and in 9 months we are nearly halfway to 200,000. That is absolutely wonderful.

Again, I'm sorry I'm freaking out about the stats of my blog, I just get real excited about this stuff. Also it's 4 am and I should probably go to bed. But I want y'all to know that you did it! This community is ever growing and I appreciate every single one of you for just reading what I've made. Oh, and to anyone commenting- I read every single one of your comments because I get an email every time you do so, so even if I don't respond your comment was not in vain!! That's one of the reasons I want to bring back Ask:Reply, it's to give your lovely comments a proper answer! :D Oh, and I have one more thing to announce:
I FINALLY UPDATED THE FUN STUFF PAGE!! This one was a long time coming; I hadn't added anything new since 2014! (yikes) So, without further ado... Introducing the new and improved Fun Stuff Page! Here's what's new:
I added some cute little penguins! They waddle across their ice flow and follow your mouse! (and apparently walk on mountains, according to the one in the top left)
I replaced the blue sloth (he didn't do anything) with a much more interesting kitten modeled after my own cat, Simon! I wrote a song about him, it's on my album E! (shamelessselfpromotionforthewin) This kitten also follows your mouse, and you can feed him a little tin of cat food or play with a stick, a ball and a string. It's pretty fun to play with, knock yourself out!
And last but not least, I finally added a new game! It's called Divide, it has 28 levels, and it's pretty fun! It takes a while to load (jesus christ kongregate, we get it) but other than that it's just a fun, mildly challenging chill-out game. Takes about 15 minutes to finish the game, but there's  fun END at the end to cut up (that sounds weird, but youll get it if you finish the game) and it's got a lot of replayability. Anyway, just thought I'd let y'all know that I added more fun stuff to the Fun Stuff page, and you can visit it here: http://theanimaljampotato.blogspot.com/p/fun-stuff.html

Okay, I think that's it! My computer is....can you guess... BROKEN AGAIN :D so I'm using a crappy laptop at the moment, but my dad should get a new one up and running AGAIN. Jesus, what is this, the fifth computer I've gone through? No, this'll be the SIXTH. Good lord. Here is a list of all the other posts I've had to make because of my dying computers:

Fifth one: This post lol

Yes I know no one's going to actually click through all of those links. But I wanted to give a visual example of how frustrating it is when your computer breaks all the time. Ugh. Well, my rant is over, and I do hope you enjoyed it, as always. I'm sorry again that I didn't post all summer and that last post never developed. Oh, one more thing- it's my birthday today!! Or it was my birthday yesterday. It's currently 4:39 AM on August 11th, and my birthday's August 10th. But yeah, I'm officially 15! That's pretty exciting! Do any of you guys have August birthdays? If so, more power to ya! We're twinsies! And if you're not an August baby, then here's a high-5 for making it through this whole post, from Jimmy Fallon to me to you:
See you next time, guys.

Happy Summer :D

October 2017 update

Hi! Basically, this post was just describing things I never got around to. I'M SORRY OKAY! I went into further detail here: clicky right here yo
(now go read another post :) )

Friday, May 19, 2017

WOOOHOOO!!! Today, May 19th, 2017, is AJP's fourth birthday! Can't believe it's been that long, that seems utterly crazy to me. Thank you all for sticking with it and all my ups and downs and shenanigans (love that word) throughout these four years, I couldn't thank you enough. I made a superlong post detailing how I as a person have changed since I started this blog, and how you guys as a community have changed too, so go read that! If you want to. I can't make you do anything, obviously. Again, it's really long so it should give ya a good 20 minutes to a half hour of entertainment, depending on how fast of a reader you are. (If you're reading this now, just scroll down and click on the post below this one; if you're reading in DA FUTURE then you can click here to read it.) Also, I FINALLY released my album Art Is Dead, which I have been working on for almost a year. It has 5 songs, plus a pretty radical acapella bonus track! You can stream the songs from Bandcamp directly (up to 3 times) or from my Soundcloud account which is here, and you can directly buy or stream the album here. (It's only $3.00 for 6 songs, which is a pretty sweet deal if you ask me.) Oh, and since you guys are so amazing, I'm giving y'all 15% off the album, which is a 45¢ sale, bringing it down to $2.55. (What a steal! lol) That's all from me today, thank you guys as always for being so awesome, I really can't thank you enough. This community has grown so much in four years- here's to four more!

The Evolution of Neros1234 (and how to properly pronounce my name)

HEY YO- MY ALBUM, ART IS DEAD IS FINALLY OUT!! YAAAY!! CLICK HERE to go buy it and use the discount code "sneaky" at your checkout for 25% off. :)

(also the "how to properly pronounce my name" part is at the very end)

Now that you had that burst of energy from good ol' Tux Walligan, your daily dose of excess energy, let's get onto the post! So, remember that post I made back in July called Hate and Swearing Part II? Yeah, that one! Well, I was looking back on that post and reflecting on it, and I realized that I've changed a considerable bit since I first started this blog, almost 4 years ago. (Wow, has it really been that long?) So get ready for a cheesy walk down Memory Lane in the Evolution of neros1234!
So, let's start at the very beginning. No, actually, let's start before the beginning- in 2012. I already told you guys about me joining Animal Jam last September, so I'm not gonna do it again. Anyway, after I had joined Animal Jam for a while and all the kids in my school had jumped on that bandwagon, (I had to keep changing my password because everyone kept guessing it and stealing my stuff- yeah, it was that crazy) I started reading Animal Jam blogs, especially Snowyclaw's blog. Now it has like a million authors and only posts once every few days, but back then it was a reliable source for all Animal Jam related news. Sure, it wasn't very funny or insightful like this blog is (shameless self promotion WHOOPS SORRY), but each post arrived every day on time with the new items or MMGs (remember those?) or whatever else was new in Animal Jam. And because we didn't have the computer that I'm typing on right now and we only had the one on the basement, 'twas a bit of a challenge to get on the computer to check AJ often. (Although I would tell my parents that I was going on there to "do my daily gem spin" or "check my email" and that would give me a good opportunity to be on AJ for a while. >:) ) However, even though I didn't have a computer, I did have this little crappy blue tablet that was supposed to be used for reading books and stuff (I tried to read Little Women but I didn't even make it through the first chapter), but you could use it to play games and go on the internet too. But the emphasis is on "crappy". It did not work. At all.
It would not track my fingers, the screen was like 500 feet thick, it would crash my stuff all the time, it couldn't hold a charge... the list goes on. Eventually I smashed it with a hammer in like 2015. That was fun. Anyway, I used to read Snowyclaw's (and others') blogs from that tablet every day, and that is where I discovered the art of the Animal Jam blog.
So, you've probably guessed by now that that is how I decided to make my own blog, and so I created this one. AND YOU'RE HALF RIGHT! Yes, I was inspired by Snowyclaw to create my blog, but I didn't create this one first. After an exciting rest of 2012 (man 2012 was a crazy year), I joined the newspaper club at my school! Yay! Isn't that fun? Except it wasn't. We literally only published 2 issues the entire year. However, I wrote 3 articles called "animal jam news" where I would tell the new items, RIMs, and a synopsis of the Jamaa Journals every week when the newspaper club would meet, and that was kind of my first foray into Animal Jam blogging. But none of them actually got published in the newspaper! I'm still salty about that. If you see one of the teachers of that newspaper class, just give them a hard stare. They'll know what it's for. (Despite you not knowing who these people are or where they live, and the fact that this was 4.5 years ago. But we'll fudge on the details a bit.) Actually, now that I think about it, I've published those articles on this blog! Oh you haven't seen them? Well if you have a Blogger blog or even if you don't, put on your listening ears! It's Tutorial Time with Neros! So, Blogger has this feature called Schedule where you can change the date of your post. You can get to it from here:
And then you change it from "Automatic" to "Set date and time".
You can put any date on there, all the way back to 1970 up to 2999. Yes, the year 2999. But if you publish a post in a crazy far-off year, then it's labeled as "Scheduled" and won't be posted until that day. So if you put your post's date as May 8th, 2098, then you'd better be prepared to wait a while. (Of course you can change it later and put in a different date. Thank goodness for that!) ANYWAY! This has gotten very sidetracked, in true neros1234 fashion. But we must carry on! WE'LL CARRY O- I am sorry. Anyway, I used the schedule feature for those articles and published them on here with the date of when they were written- November and December 2012.
Okay, I can tell this is boring you. So we'll skip ahead to April 2013, when I created...drum roll please....
"Hilarious AJ Pictures". Yep, I had a lot of tries before I created this blog. So, the backstory of this one was I had looked at all these Animal Jam blogs, and a lot of them had a "funny pictures" part of their blog, which was (no offense) just a bunch of 9 year olds with terrible grammar making their animal say something that I guess I thought was just hysterical. My favorite was this one that, looking back, makes absolutely no sense at all:
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN??!! I thought it was the most hilarious thing I'd ever seen back in 2013, and I don't know why. Also, Grammar Police Neros coming out a little bit here, but ya didn't use the correct form of "they're". And not only that, they spelled "their" wrong!! ARRGH! I really can't stand people that have no sense of how to spell things! It really Mondays my Garfield. And I thought it was so funny, I put it on my fricking COMPUTER BACKGROUND!
Fun fact: I use Sumopaint for everything now and I have been doing that for years, (like seriously. Every single picture on this blog is either a screenshot or made/edited in Sumopaint.) but in early 2013 I didn't use Sumopaint. I used this really crappy program called Gimp Editor and then screenshot the finished product. (I had to screenshot it because if I saved it, it would save as a ".xcf" file which no one could use. The problem with that was there was a black-and-yellow line on the edges of the artwork, so that would get in the way when screenshotting. Here's some examples:
Notice that little line? And yes, it's at the bottom of my logo! Have you ever noticed that? Probably not, because it's so tiny, but yeah I didn't make that logo in Sumopaint. The reason I've never fixed it or updated it is because to this day I still really like it. I like the fact that each letter is a different font (bonus points if you can guess what each of the 5 fonts are) and the numbers being outlined by my different animals. My dolphin is completely black in the 2 because I was using that for a joke in a post back in Mayish 2013, on Hilarious AJ Pictures. Fun fact 2: I made this logo at 9:30 PM on May 19th, 2013, about an hour after I created this blog!!  Good times, man. OH! I almost forgot! That wasn't my original logo! This was:
This was made on May 16th, 2013. Man, what a difference 3 days can make! This one's decidedly crappier. For one, you can see the brush strokes; the Neros part is slanted for some reason; the N is all weird; you didn't crop the laughing face; the 1234 is transparent; you can see the brush in the bottom right corner; and there's a random yin yang symbol in the middle of the O. I'm glad 2013 Neros decided to up the quality of her logo 3 days later. Wow, this is getting me so nostalgic even though this was just 4 years ago! People really change, I guess. OKAY THIS IS GETTING WAY TOO CHEESY AND BORING FAST FORWARD TO THE CREATION OF AJP!!
So. The day was May 19th, 2013. My family had just had a lovely dinner with our family friends, and after that I walked inside and got on the computer. I had just discovered how easy it was to get a Blogger account, and so I signed up with my school account and clicked "Create a blog". Now I needed a name. Should I create a title that would be funny, but also easy for people to remember? Nope! Not at all! Instead, how about just put your favorite food and then slap "Animal Jam" in front of it and call it a day. That sounds like a great idea, Neros! Go with that! (I also considered "The Animal Jam Kidney Bean". Yeah. THAT would have been a different blog entirely.) Alright, now that we have a name and an actual Blogger blog, it's time to make a first post. Let me think. 2013 Neros, should we make something condescending yet witty; pulling audiences in from all corners of the earth and really show what to look for in this blog?
Nope! Just make a 2-sentence post in which you shamelessly self-promote your "funny picture" website that no one has heard of or cares about, introduce yourself, and that's it. Jesus Christ 2013 Neros. "May/may not have seen"? Who do you think you're you kidding, 2013 Neros? The only people that ever looked at that in the month of its existence were you and your brother! Man. I kinda wish I made a cooler first post, so I would be able to react on it later and see how much I've grown as a person and as a creator. But NOPE! At least it wasn't as bad as Dan's infamous Hello Internet.
press 'Like' FOR TOAD? x
Anyway, let's move on over to the summer of 2013. I made really painfully short posts like that one, but at least they were consistent. I was pretty proud of myself that I posted almost every day in July and August.
That first summer was interesting, because although I made some stuff I'm kinda embarrassed by now (aka everything I ever did in 2013) this was the first period of time that I got recognized online and got my first online friends and fans. I got my first thousand views in July 2013, which was pretty cool! I also made this:
First of all, "2-mnth"? Are you trying to replicate Fall Out Boy's "Thnks Fr th Mmrs"? When there's a red line under  a word, you should probably go back and check it! (I will correct everyone's spelling and grammar, including myself.) Also, Jesus Christ you've had your blog for literally 2 months there is no need to celebrate that. Good lord, I have a hard enough time making posts for AJP's yearly anniversaries, much less 2 months! But I guess you have that kind of time to make posts like that when you are 10 and it's summer. Anyway, moving onto September 2013!
Now, as you might know, (because I've only mentioned it 20 million times on this blog) THIS WAS THE POST. THIS WAS THE POST THAT STARTED IT ALL, MAN. And it was all because of that second picture right above this text. For some reason that day, I was just making a post as usual and decided to change the colors of the ring, and BOOM it blew up in my face and it got like 7,000 views (which is the most views a post has ever gotten) and almost 40 comments. Which is a lot, okay! Jeez. Anyway, if you don't know the whole ding-dang story you could probably just search for it over on the right -----> under that lovely counter I have until AJP's birthday. Which is very very soon actually! Anyway. This post [Turquoise Ring], this one singular post, proves that I can NEVER BE RID OF ANIMAL JAM. All of my fans and all of the general people that read this blog found it because they were tied to Animal Jam in some way, and so was I. But you know what? I think it's about time to move on from AJ together! As a community! Because to tell the truth, if you're older than 14, you're probably getting too old for the game. However, I am just a random person on the internet that you most likely don't know in real life, so if you don't want to base your decisions off of my opinion, that's okay. OKAY! That got weird! Moving onto November 2013!
Really the only reason I'm talking about this month in particular is because a. I went to San Diego, which was pretty cool (↑that's a picture I took there, and that picture of me next to Lego Yoda that I showed you in my face reveal post was also taken in San Diego) and b. I made my first kinda cartoonish picture in Sumopaint. You know my style of drawing? Well this was my first stab at that in the post called "Anchor".
HAHAHAHHAHHAThat's so hilarious, 2013 Neros!! You should be a comedian. Jesus, look how badly that's drawn! I don't actually think a giant floating nutshell with a flag needs an anchor, but I see where you were going with that. Moving onto the good ol' year of 2014!
This was the background I used for New Year's 2014. Ain't that great? I love the super stretched out (WISH WE COULD TURN BACK TI'll stop) party hat ya got there, Neros. Expert editing right here. Also, about the 5 exclamation points- good Jesus, this is the new year, not MCR getting back together! Fun fact actually- did you know there's only 5 posts on here without an exclamation point. (Extra credit if you can find all 5; it took me forever!) I guess I'm just a really loud and excited person. ANYWAY! Onto April 2014!
This was my very first April Fool's Day joke, and I gotta give 2014 Neros credit this time! This is actually a good idea in theory! IN THEORY. My idea was to make it look like the background was glitching out by making some glitch art of the potato and then making it a gif. Hilarious prank, right? NOPE! It actually just blinded people and turned them away from my blog! Fun!! Here was the original gif:
Now imagine that x300, constantly looping in the background while you're trying to read something. Not the wisest decision, 2014 Neros. Here's something you probably don't know: In April 2014, I also had an app! Yup! An AJP app. That got downloaded by exactly 1 person. Here's a screenshot!
Now, keep in mind, this is version 1. I did update this app later on- I mean, I'm not insane! Who in their right mind would release an app and not update it at least once?? Here is the updated version:
YUP! It's exactly the same except for the font. What a great app, everybody! Let's give it a round of applause!! 👏👏👏 Here is the page for it, on the website that I made it on:
Oooooh the cringe. I hope y'all realize that this was from 3 years ago so that doesn't reflect me anymore. At all. Yikes. If you so choose, you can also relive the cringe (and if you want a blast from the past you can actually download the app) by clicking here. Anyway, onto May 2014!
This is what the blog looked like on May 19th, 2014. That potato cake is pretty okay! Not your best work, 2014 Neros, but okay! Also, I put up a counter on my blog until May 19th, 2014 (I did that this year too), except I forgot to make the counter stop at 0 when it reached the end. So it just kept on going, and even though I removed that gadget from the blog, I had saved it in the Wayback Machine (that's how I got this screenshot), so the counter has been counting up ever since then!
So right now, if you go to the saved version of AJP from 5-19-2014, you can watch that counter go up and up! And it makes sense that it's 1095 days...
Okay, now for a brief summary of the rest of 2014. It was pretty neutral, AJP reached 10,000 and then 20,000 views; I made a bunch of posts; I went to Michigan and played some music; I had a copyright issue in Septmber; and I realeased an album. (which you can buy at neros1234.bandcamp.com) I need to stop with the shameless self promotion! Alright! Onto 2015!
Ahhh... more cringe. I love waking up to a fresh glass of cringe in the morning! If you have no idea what I'm talking about (and I don't blame you), I made these REALLY terrible and cringey videos in January 2015 called "Gaming Challenges". Yes, it is as bad as it sounds. It was basically where I would start up a screen recorder, play a flash game for 8 minutes, and that constituted a video. There was no "challenge" part of it at all, I have no idea where I got that part, and also they were completely unedited. Yeah. Oh god, I have spent 2 years trying to repress those memories and now I'm bringing them forth into the light!! Noooo!! I actually got a comment on one of those videos that was from some guy, and he was actually giving me criticism on this piece-of-crap video that I literally spent no time making. *searches* Oh my god, I actually found the comment!! Here it is:
What a rude little boy David is. And I was trying my best, too! HAHHAHHA That was a funny joke! Nope, he was almost entirely right except that I'm a female so my voice isn't gonna change that much from when I was 12 to when I'm 18. But yeah, I did sound like a five year old and yeah, I was horrible at all the games I played. And again, it was unedited, so I could be stuck at one part of a game for the entire video. (David's still rude though. Classic David... ugh.) Anyway... I'm just really regretting the fact that these videos ever existed. Luckily I took them down and deleted the original files, but they are still burned into my (and David's) brain. Just trust me... they were terrible. Anyway, I returned to blogging after that monstrosity of a month in February, and the rest of 2015 was really influential in developing my style of drawing and sense of humor. We started the year with 25,000 views and ended it with almost 60,000, so good job guys! That's so awesome. I'm always so amazed by how much this community grows in such a small amount of time. Here's some of my "artwork" that I did in 2015:
And the list goes on and on. I think what we've learned from this is I should never have obtained a computer. Like...never. My blog is a crapstorm. It's like you're in a tornado and you grab the first two things that fall into your hands, and I have a picture for it. Cactus and chair? Perfect! Tree and deformed squirrel-looking creature? I got you bro. A duck and some sandals? I have it! Man, what have I become? ANYWAY!! After 2015 I really haven't changed much. Except my posts are less more annoying and less Animal Jam-themed. But that's alright, like I said before, it's a process that we will work through together! But anyway, this post has gone on way too long (as it usually does) and so it's time for the MEMEOFTHEDAY!!
I mean, they're not wrong. Colleges make so much fricking money from our tuitions. Plus, students need to use the printer for assignments and stuff so they, ya know, don't get kicked out of college! The world is broken, man. Wow, this post started off insane and ended kinda sad. You know what, let's end it with a pun, just for good ol' times sake!
BWAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHH THAT'S SO FUNNY I THINK ID IED LAUGHING I'M IN MY GRAVE RIGHT NOW HAHHA Ooookay, settle down. HAHAHAHHAHAH Jesus, why am I like this?! Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this extra-special post for AJP's birthday, and I hope you had a lovely May 19th! I decided to tone it down this year; previous years I have gone a bit over the top with AJP's birthday. But it's special, you know? OH! I completely forgot about the "how to pronounce my name" part! So here it is:

My name, neros1234, is pronounced "nuh-ross" (as it says in my Blogger bio) and not "knee-rose" as some of my friends were calling it. NO! That's not it! It's not pronounced like the Norwegian name! Just imagine you were about to call someone a nurse (I don't know, just roll with it) or no, I know, a nerd! Yeah! That's really an outdated phrase, but imagine you're a bully in a 1980's classic teen movie, and you're about to call a kid a nerd, but then this really big strong guy named Ross comes along. And you're like
Well, that was quite possibly the worst analogy anyone in the history of the world has ever come up with! I mean, at least you'll remember it forever now, because it's so weird?! I mean, it's not any weirder than any of the "artworks" I showed you up there↑. Yeah, I don't know why the little kid with brown hair has no arms. Or where he's looking. I never said I could draw, okay?! Okay! That is enough internet for now. If you enjoyed this thouroughly strange and somewhat demeaning post, say so in a comment! I'd appreciate that. And go listen to my new album! It's really good, I promise. Bye!

Pet Rules

Oh hey, you've made it to the bottom of the page. Well, now that you're here, it's now your responsibility to make sure the pets get fed. So:
1. Feed Pete 2 or 3 fish. DON'T FEED HIM MORE THAN THAT!! He'll fall over!
2. Over on the Fun Stuff page, feed the fishes about 15 pieces of food (5 clicks) Don't let the red one eat all the food! She's very greedy.
3. And finally, feed Rosie who is also on the Fun Stuff page. She needs about 2 apples and 1 piece of broccoli every day. She loves being brushed, so you should pet her with the brush too!

That's all! Now go feed them. THEY'RE HUNGRY. Oh, and by the way did I mention they need these daily?
